Drug Information for Health Professionals

The NLM Drug Information Portal gives users a gateway to selected drug information, from the U.S. National Library of Medicine and other key U.S. Government agencies. This particular link is tailored to health professionals. Resources include the NLM search systems useful in searching for a drug, NLM research resources, resources organized by audience and class, and other NIH and government resources such as FDA and CDC.

PubMed offers free, online access to the National Institute of Medicine’s MEDLINE databases. The site provides access to citations and abstracts from biomedical literature. If a publisher has a web site that offers full-text of its journals, PubMed provides links to that site as well as biological resources, consumer health information, research tools, and more. While there are some free full-text articles available, many publishers charge a fee for access to full-text.

National Guideline Clearinghouse

The National Guideline Clearinghouse(tm) (NGC) is a comprehensive database of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines and related documents produced by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) (formerly the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research [AHCPR]), in partnership with the American Medical Association (AMA) and the American Association of Health Plans (AAHP). The NGC mission is to provide physicians, nurses, and other allied healthcare professionals and providers, detailed information on clinical practice guidelines and to further their dissemination, implementation and use.

Users of this site must register. The user then selects a subject site. There is no "homepage" but users can select other subjects or search. Free MEDLINE is available as well as value added news and reviews and full text of selected journal articles and textbooks.

The Public Library of Science is a nonprofit organization that publishes freely available open access journals covering all aspects of life science and medicine. PLoS publishes peer-reviewed scientific and medical journals that include original research as well as timely feature articles.
